Here, we delve into our Pitta haircare system and the hero active in this remarkable formula…

Latin | Terminalia Chebula Sanskrit | Haritaki English | Chebulic Myrobalan

Haritaki Fruit.

You will have already guessed we’re not talking about the latest culinary whim. No, this formidable fruit is the hero botanical in our Pitta haircare regime.

Native to India, its inclusion isn’t simply a rudimentary nod to the cultural principles that inspire our brand though… our motivation is far more substantial. Used for centuries by Ayurvedic healers, this ‘mother of herbs’ is abundant in numerous minerals (including selenium, potassium, manganese, iron and copper), vitamins (importantly, vitamin c) and proteins, plus is a rich source of antioxidants. In fact, Haritaki Fruit is so highly revered in India that illustrations of the Medicine Buddha show him holding it.

‘Hari’ | meaning “that which steals.”

‘Taki’ | meaning “that which cleans and enhances glow.”

In essence, Haritaki Fruit detoxifies and adds lustre and shine.

Specifically, we’ve selected Haritaki Fruit for our Pitta Shampoo and Conditioner formulations to help cleanse, nourish and strengthen fine or thinning hair. Any sceptics among you will be pleased to hear that modern science supports claims around Haritaki Fruit’s transformational qualities. Studies in 2010, 2011 and 2014 revealed its effectiveness in reducing Glycation – one of the principal causes in the signs of ageing. Glycation refers to the binding of sugars to proteins, which go on to form Advanced Glycation End products (shortened, aptly, to AGEs). It occurs as a result of sun damage, pollution, poor water quality, diminished sleep, stress and hormonal change – making a not-so-welcome appearance in your 30s and affecting almost every type of cell and molecule in your body… including your hair. The result? Once well-behaved hair can start to appear dull, depleted and fragile.

To help overcome this, we’ve sourced the highest quality Haritaki Fruit and used it at an optimised concentration. It’s worth mentioning at this point that the specific fruit extract in our Pitta volumising shampoo blend – somewhat surprisingly – creates a grey tone to the formula. Rest assured though, it’s perfectly natural and we intentionally chose not mask this with artificial colour.

Once combined with the other incredible natural actives and essential oils in our Pitta haircare blends (Sandalwood, Ylang, Geranium and Neroli to name a few), the effects from these two exceptional formulas are instant, transformational and long-lasting. Volume and body are restored, along with a healthy scalp, weightless condition and youthful vitality. Your hair is back to its beautiful, natural best.

Inspired? We hope so.
